In Mike McMaster's Re:Searching for LO's, he posed the question about why
the application of effective theories and practices seem to fall short in
many organizations(my interpretation of his comments). In the same post,
there seems to me to be a clue, "the answer" which I understand to refer
to a final truth. We in the west seem to be quite clear that there is one
answer, one truth, one solution, if only we could find it! This has led, I
believe, to some extraordinary accomplishments in a material sense, yet
given rise to short-term outlooks, like the phrase "what have you done
lately?" suggests. Our fascination, I am tempted to suggest addiction,
with fads seems to me to come out of this view. And has led to a
self-righteous refusal to value process, which is a defining word for
education and learning organizations. So, we continue to search for the
optimum solution in] virtually everything we do, as though life was
static, perfection is not only achievable but sustainable, and the
"answer" is attainable.
