It seems to me that when we think of the 'new paradigm' of leadership, so
eloquently described in many contributions to this thread, it becomes
necessary to cease thinking about THE leader, and start thinking of
DISTRIBUTED LEADERSHIP.

For me one of the highest manifestations of well functioning teamwork is
when the leadership role moves gracefully from one person to another as
the team moves from one task to another. Yes! I have seen it in reality! I
like to think that it happens in our own organisation. Furthermore I have
also observed a manufacturing setting where the team as a collective
entity operated to consciously develop the leadership skills of those of
its members who are naturally reticent,
