I am a consultant with EDS and am involved with the MIT/OLC by way of
support. EDS is sponsoring an activity, at the request of the OLC
Consortia and MIT, to provide a place where they can work together
electronically. They, being the Liaison Officers and the OLC Staff, wish
to accomplish work and enjoy other success using a collaborative
environment. This place is to be safe and private while allowing for
interface to the public at large. My involvement to-date has been meeting
with the members and leaning as much as I can about the subject matter and
how they work together. Their relationships and techniques are most
important when considering how to use technology to support their efforts.

We have made some progress so far, but I am sure that most of them have
not yet subscribed to this list. In fact, I am helping the majority of
them get Internet email access. They have yet (as a group) learned how to
subscribe and participate in lists. There will be much more activity in
the electronic environment in the near future.

Additionally, I have the same project for the practitioners of OLC
concepts within EDS. We are building a collaborative environment that
spans the world to link our participants into the electronic environment.
I suppose I could go on for a few pages about these efforts, the barriers,
the successes and many other topics as I have experienced many obstacles
in the past 1 1/2 years. However, I will try to limit my diatribe to
relevant topics where I feel I can contribute.

The topic of a Knowledge Repository is one I have a great deal of empathy
for today, although I am involved with issues related to other topics as
well. EDS has several major projects underway to accomplish this. However,
I see flaws everywhere. Maybe that's because of what I have learned
through my association with the learning organization concepts. My
approach has always been of finding ways for technology to support the
human efforts. For those of us who are practitioners in using technology,
this seems understated, but for those who never use technology, this is an
overwhelming prospect.

Enough of an into. I hope to be informative in the future.
