As you think of the cost in terms of human, financial, and natural
resources that the "elitism in our specialized ... society" carries, think
also of the enhanced cost in the global markets. Our competitiveness is
riding on aour ability to move out of this elitism and into an open field
of learning and growing! It is not easy for us to do that. My own
paycheck is tied to the notion that people have to come to me, to be in my
classroom, during certain periods of time, and that the whole process has
to be officially sanctioned by the dean, the administrators, the
legislators, and who knows how many others... After all these conditions
have been met, then learning can happen!

I wonder how many other countries are still rigidly tied to similar
process?

Ivan,
