Thanks for the clarification. I am not an IS person but I can recognise
threads in your response which relate to the systems and chaos/mathematics
lineage of complexity and are just beginning to enter complex adaptive
systems theories.

A couple of references that I think are relevant to this dialogue are
Maturana and Varela (autopoiesis) and Winograd and Flores (computers and
cognition).

The work of John Holland and the SFI researchers into genetic algorithms
and related approaches also is doing exciting work in this area.

I'm going to do some work with your response and questions to see if I can
formulate some useful dialogue relating the issues of organisational
theory and organisational intelligence that I am working with.
