Mike Gildersleeve's commentary (LO315) on compost heaps and
practice caught my imagination. Practice in life: the Zen folk and the
Taoists have long noted its importance (so, for that matter, did St.
Benedict in his rules for monks). What we build into our lives to
actively, attentively learn from is sacred (including, quite obviously,
vegetable scraps and compost heaps). Perhaps that's why those heaps steam
so visibly in the cold winter, heating the snow above 'em: their energy
from attention as well as bacterial process?
I wonder if the gossip process in organizations is an information
compost heap?
