I concur with some of the other commentary that war is not a win\lose
proposition. From a Clausowitzian point of view, wars are fought for
political reasons. It is an instrument of national power to meet national
security objectives which may not involve destroying an adversary's
infrastructure. As Sun Tzu said in his seminal work, "The Art of War",
" To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill". Destroying
adversaries in win/lose situations may not convey the right message.
Perhaps, we ought to think about methaphors that convey win/win
situations or methaphors that connote a competitive advantage that is so
superior that one does not have to compete.
