I think you're probably right about the perception filters. But for those of
us without the Zen training you refer to, using a range of metaphors means
using a range of filters and the composite image produced will hopefully
approach a complete picture.

Incidentally, my knowledge of Zen is virtually zero. I am rather interested
in what aspect of Zen training allows one to shed our version of
perspective. In fact a brief exploration of Zen might be appropriate for
this list.
