exasperation and preoccupation

TheWorld.com has been misbehaving again so once again I didn't upload the new entry and then forgot about it. All the more reason to blog even though I keep thinking that blogging is radically different from the stuff I' ve been writing here and furthermore blogging is much more hip and with it and, well, young. Or something. I started a couple of blogs so I could try to kind of get my sea legs with the new medium. The first one, stercus, is the traditional "links and commentary" on the day's news with the only twist being I only blog bird news. Well and the twist on the twist is that the bird news has nothing to do with avian flu. The new one on livejournal is in my Captain Peleg identity. Ishmael and Queequeg were both taken. Right now all I seem to be able to write about there is how I don't know how to blog. Well that and Wilbur's old age and decline.

I've been preoccupied with trying to get Wilbur to eat, trying to get Wilbur to take his medications (he's on nearly as many as I am), and going to the vet for his bloodwork and blood pressure check every two weeks. At the end of last week he had had stopped eating altogether and yet had diarrhea so bad that I finally broke down and bought a SpotBot to clean up after him. I love the SpotBot by the way. In the past he's bounced back from episodes like that in a few days so I just kept trying to tempt him to eat and cleaning up after him until Tuesday when I brought him to the vet again. She couldn't figure out which of his many chronic diseases was causing the problem and he was pretty skinny and dehydrated so she wanted to keep him overnight. That turned into two nights. I picked him up yesterday morning and stayed home with him for a couple hours before work. He's perked up quite a bit and he's eating right now as I write this -- though I had to try a couple different foods to entice him. I missed him terribly for the two nights he was at the vet and I'm really going to miss him when he's gone. I hope he has many more quality months before that though.

Meanwhile I haven't been sleeping well and I'm still tired from the aftermath of the cold from hell and my knees are stiff from the cold. That's reason enough not to blog, ain't it?
