Tomorrow is the day. The Beach Boys are getting married. So, what am I doing? Reviewing the 11 most edited pages in the history of western civilization one more time, oops, make that two more times -- in one day. I thought the sample pages for the advertising/fundraising brochure for Conifers Around the World were done that last two times I edited them. Nope. Today's second pass really truly is the last. I spent over an hour on the phone with Zsolt reading aloud to him from the Chicago Manual of Style. The hilarious part of this is that I just finished reading Eats, Shoots & Leaves yesterday and am totally befuddled by where to put the commas anymore, especially where the author differs with the Chicago Manual of Style. Trying to explain American English punctuation to a Hungarian when I understand neither Hungarian rules for commas nor English rules for commas (at least apparently I don't, as Ms. Shoots & Leaves seems to have put me in my lowly, philistine, American place) is a challenge akin to crawling around on the floor trying to photograph kittens for the cat shelter's web site or, worse yet, trying to get Wilbur to take his thyroid medicine. And now I really really really (without commas) must get back to writing my words for the ceremony tomorrow as I have promised the Beach Boys I will work beach grass into it and time is ticking away. |
