Two, or was it three, thunderstorms in quick succession. No hail though. So very very tired. I'm told that grief is physically draining. So, Alongshore is a lot better than Outside Lies Magic. Stilgoe actually cites sources in Alongshore. And he doesn't mention any Fragmenties. Whatever they are. Maybe the reason H.G.O. Blake ends the summer volume of Thoreau's journal in mid-July is it's supposed to be a seasonal account of Concord and from mid-July to September Thoreau was often away from Concord: in the White Mountains, down the Cape, Maine ... Cape Cod and the Maine woods get their own books, but as far as I know the White Mountains don't. A pity. What does it say about me that my closest "friend" right now is a long dead 19th century curmudgeon from Concord? |
