...for people interested in online writing and usability.

Bob Stepno's online writing resources are excellent; I particularly like the links at the bottom of the left hand column on this page and his basic "how to get online" page.

Dan Bricklin's online writing resources include:

Good Documents; key pages are

"Write links that don't have to be followed"
"When (and how) to use frames"
A new version of the 1998 Independent Counsel's Report
A usability report on an earlier version of the site itself

Web Photo Journals

A typical journal like this one sets expectations, and uses small, quick-loading photos and text together well (with support for text-only browsers).

Dan's own weblog (www.bricklin.com/log/)

A typical detail page is a report on using the Stowaway Keyboard that touches on my favorite topic, "how new technology works in the real world."

This log page has photos and an explanation of the Trellix usability lab.

Jakob Nielsen's alertbox columns are so well known that they have even been parodied (Nielsen2004, Flash, drinking game).

My all time favorites include:
Be Succinct! (except I disagree with him about scrolling)
Web Pages Must Live Forever (therefore think about your page naming scheme)
How Users Read On The Web **** four stars!
Testing Whether Web Page Templates Are Helpful - Jorn Barger's favorite

User Interface Engineering is a Boston-based consulting group that did the first published studies of web site usability. The founder, Jared Spool, is a prophet of paper prototyping, which is the subject of its current lead article plus this review of their methods.

See As the Page Scrolls for another example of their publicly available articles; they also host Chauncey Wilson's usability bibliography.
