Sunday was actually a good riding day. Still tired out from long days at Bridgehampton, we dont actually get on the road 'til about 11 am. I'm riding a '95 cbr600f3 and Steve on a vtr1000. Remind myself why I dont LIKE living on Long Island as we get caught on the Throgsneck Bridge traffic. Ewwww. Changing lanes, I feel the rear wheel of the F3 skip and bounce, and am happy with my response, which was to stay relaxed, and stay on the throttle, and let the bike do its little thing wriggling in the back. I try real hard not to get cocky when stuff like this happens and I do the right thing, since when I do that skiing, the very next thing that happens is my falling on my face in the snow. I dont want that relationship with asphalt. We finally get off the damn highway and onto the bottom part of 22, around a reservoir. I know that Steve likes to take this fast, and expect that he'll just go ahead... the F3 is still new for me, and much flickier then my Triumph, and I find myself setting up for a corner and then having to correct half way thru it becuase the f3 apexes more quickly than the Sprint would. HEe! this is weird! Lean lean lean, FLICK! We get onto some other roads, and I'm constantly amazed at traffic. A lexus pulls ou tin front of steve and then proceeds to weave back and forth looking for something on the side of the road. They were totally lost and being dangerous to us... ahh, the new yorker in steve comes out as I watch in amusement... how DO you manage to ride and do that with your hands? *grin* We pass them finally and hit some more great twisties - I ought to get a route listing of where we went. Had a late lunch at some weird little burger joint where I got a number of funny looks. Hey, I know they were borrowed leathers, but they FIT me!!! And my shoulders still look pretty good in a tanktop... anyway, we'd sat next to a family who's kids were showing way too much interest in the two biker scum. Had lunch quick - thank goodness, steve understands me when I'm riding. I stop to eat and pee and fill up on gas then then I want to Go. I dont like sittin' around talkin'. that's what you do afterwards. I get into that mindset of riding, and I want back there as soon as I can. this is my drug. :) So I found the zen spot again, pretty quickly, and on a new bike. Zip zip zip zoom! The VTR had less then 120 miles on the odo, and Steve pulled over on a stretch of road we'd been on already and said to me, "You've GOTTA try this, its a pisser!" and motioned for me to get on his bran' new baby. umm. ummm. steve, this is Not A good idea. I've been in lust with this bike since I saw it in the magazines months ago. I've been madly desiring it even tho I bought a triumph... too late. My butt is in the seat. And we're off. I'm so excited I barely have time to register more then the pegs buzzing a bit (are they metal pegs?) and how great the vtwin torque feels... i miss that pull. The triple is good, and the 4 is just weird for me. 2.8 miles later, he pulls over and asks me, "how was it?" I quietly get off the seat and sit on the cbr and dont say very much, other then, "I like it." Problem is, I love it. I need to ride it more to find out what I DONT LIKE about it, but right now, nothing. Its like a train on tracks in turns, and the pull is amazing from 1500rpm to 6000 (its still in breakin, so I didnt go over 6k). I want to flick it over in long sweepers and see how it handles... getting off that bike was one of the hardest things I had to do in a long long time. Its like having an affair - too exciting for its brevity. a great ride (thanks, Steve, for putting up with me and feeding me on time), on two great bikes. Kudos to Honda Engineering for a great all around sport bike (the f3) and for an even better vtwin. Its different from the Buell S2 and the Duc900SS I rode - more comfy then the Beull and the pull / torque is different from the Duc... Jezebel hates me again - I'm 300 miles past her 6 K service and dont want to take her any distance until this weekend when that happens... *waxes the bike tonite* This weekend, a trip to helemot, and a ride on a BMWK75s up the Crest. Next weekend, SanDiego to Pasadena, Back Roads only...
