A Sculpture Park is Where You Find It -- II

We kept an eye out for Segre’s every time we drove I-84. We were disappointed when the building changed from Segre’s Iron Works to Waterbury Headers, but the sculptures (which varied from trip to trip) were still there. The last few years Waterbury Headers has been gone and the building has just had an “Industrial Space For Rent” sign on it, but (as of April ’98 anyway) the front yard still is full of wonderful pieces. We’ve never seen a sign for it on the road, nor any sign saying “Yes, this is where we did the work for sculptures that are now all over the world”, but there’s nothing to discourage visitors either. Here are our pictures from April ’98:

Arlene and a stabile. That’s the frontage road in the background; I-84 is just beyond the guard rail.

Dean and the same piece. Look at those rivets! Even if you’re a world-renowned sculptor, you just can’t work that big in your studio or barn.

The gorgeous big figure that I used as the background for my other page. Look again at the picture of the front of the building to get an idea of the scale.
