Andover and the New Moon Coffeehouse

Arlene's favorite acoustic musician is Tony Bird, a singer from Malawi. We've gone to Providence to hear him (when Charley was at RISD) and he was playing in Haverhill (HAY-vur-ill) Mass last Saturday. It's close to 50 miles from Newton, but that's not unreasonable when Arlene hasn't heard him for a while. The opening act was Too Tall Blondes, which was a duet, with guitar and a wide variety of simple percussion (an indian drum and several kinds of rattles and shakers) used to excellent effect. It was one of those times when the opening act is just what you hope for -- someone you didn't know but will want to hear as a lead act sometime.

On the way, we stopped at Addison Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy in Andover, and saw the very interesting exhibits of new ceramic sculpture, panoramic photos, and photos of Lawrence MA.

We had an early supper at the Papaya Cafe, a Thai restaurant a block from the coffeehouse. At that hour the place was deserted, so we got lots of attention and LOTS to eat. We recommend it, but we don't know when we'll be back.

The concert was at the New Moon Coffeehouse
