Dean’s History (1961-1968)

There’s a bunch of stuff in here that relates to the Civil Rights movement of the ’60s. I don’t want you to think I’m presenting myself as a civil rights activist. I wasn’t. Lots of people did a thousand times more than I did, and that’s not even talking about the people who were killed in the struggle. I participated in two minor, peaceful civil rights demonstrations and saw a little of what was going on. I was never arrested nor beaten. The movement was much more important to me than I was to it. When you’re putting your own image of that time together, though, here is one more viewpoint. Please think of these more as stories than history, because I wrote them more than thirty years afterwards.
