14-June-99 Post convention recovery

It was raining a little when I opened the door to leave for work, so I drove; but it was nice enough by lunchtime to go for a uni ride on the river walk. This boardwalk is my favorite part of the path. The photo is from a few weeks ago, and the leaves are fully out now so it looks different. It's narrow enough that I have to pay attention, but not scary. Since I was driving to work, I stopped at Bread and Circus (it's on my driving route but not my bike route) and got a salad for lunch. I spotted a chimney charcoal starter for the grill, and got it too. It's a metal cylinder about 8 inches in diameter and 14 high, with a perforated divider a quarter of the way up. You put crumpled newspaper in the bottom, fill the top with charcoal, put it in the grill, and light the newspaper. After fifteen or twenty minutes the charcoal is ready to cook on, and you dump it out into the grill. Arlene had got arctic char and eggplant to grill for supper, so the chimney got a tryout right away. It passed with flying colors. Hey, I finally decided that I'm likely enough to keep this journal up that I filled out the Open Pages form. With the stamp convention over I may have more time to write.
