This was done by Susan Houghton of Kansas City MO, formerly known as Susan in Kansas (koi), Mikki DuChene of Ames, IA (the blue shape that could be a breaking wave if the card were sideways), and Diana Ryman of Ravenna, OH (Chinese characters, dragon, and background sponging)Susan wrote on the covering letter "Hope my choice doesn't give you fits! LOL" and on the card "Ooh - one chance is all folks! A great challenge - enjoy". In another hand is written "(oriental koi) and "Mikki Du Chene - blue ?". Then Diane wrote "Thanks a lot! What a challenge -- all I could see was oriental here -- & if you squint the barbed wire becomes lettering??? 2000, dragon, chop & large letters carved. Masked & sponged over all.
I don't know what Mikki was thinking of when she carved the blue shape, but it certainly works as a ring of ripples where the fish has just come to the surface.
Some other participants said they hoped this swap didn't end up all pastoral. This card shows it doesn't have to. I hadn't seen the similarity between the barbed wire and some of the brush strokes in Chinese characters, but the similarity is there.
