The Novodevichy Convent is in southwest Moscow, near the shore of the Moskva River and the Sportivnaya metro stop. The adjacent cemetery is the most prestigious burial place in Moscow after the Kremlin wall. Peter the Great forced his half-sister Sofia to retire here after he took over the throne from her.
