A Visit to Dorsetshire and Cornwall: 5-Apr-42
Background: A force of 80 D3A Val dive-bombers, armed as a second
strike on Colombo, were sent instead after a spotting report of at least two
large ships some 200 miles west of Ceylon, in the hope that this was the whole
Royal Navy Far East Fleet. Instead, it was just two heavy cruisers: HMS
Cornwall and Dorsetshire.
These two ships had been enroute to Columbo, but before reaching there were
ordered back to Addu Atoll.
