Our Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony will be held at Temple Beth Shalom (a.k.a. the Tremont Street Shul), at 8 Tremont Street in Cambridge. Kabbalat panim (greeting the bride and groom) is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM, in the synagogue social hall downstairs, with ketubah signing shortly after 4pm. Then we will all proceed upstairs to the sanctuary to begin the chuppah (wedding ceremony; see "About the Ceremony" below) at 4:30.

About the Synagogue

The synagogue, among other things, is where we met in 2004.

Because the synagogue was built in 1924, before the days of parking lots or event space, our reception will be held elsewhere. Parking on Tremont Street tends to be scarce (although resident permit restrictions are not in effect on Sundays); there is additional parking on Broadway, on Norfolk Street along the park, on Hampshire Street, and in public parking lots off Massachusetts Avenue and at Kendall Square. The hotel and the Central Square T station are both about half a mile (8- to 10-minute walk) from the shul, so you may prefer to walk. We encourage guests to wear comfortable shoes, both for walking now and for dancing later.

Update: We will have a shuttle van running between the hotel and synagogue from 3:00 to 5:45 pm. Day-trippers as well as hotel guests may want to park near the hotel and shuttle (or walk) back and forth. In addition to free parking on the streets around the hotel, parking will be available at the garage next door to the hotel for $10.

About the Ceremony

Knowing that Jewish wedding rituals will be unfamiliar to many of our guests, we look forward to sharing this new experience with you! We will have printed programs at the ceremony explaining the various ritual components, blessings, and other practices. If you can't wait, you can read an overview of the traditional Jewish wedding ceremony in advance.

Officiating at the ceremony will be Rabbi Jonathan Kraus of Beth El Temple Center in Belmont, MA.

A Grand Unified Theory

Erica has been totally enmeshed extremely active at Temple Beth Shalom since the first week she moved to Cambridge in 1996. Rabbi Kraus was formerly the associate rabbi in Justin's home congregation -- Beth El Hebrew Congregation (no relation to his current temple) in Alexandria, Virginia -- and officiated at Justin's bar mitzvah in 1990. We are very excited to be able to bring together "Erica's shul" and "Justin's rabbi" to inaugurate our new life together.
