Although I specialize in electronic typesetting and graphic design, I also do hand-lettering. For example: Using permanent archival ink, I can letter your custom ketubah text onto a print you have purchased elsewhere. Scripts: I offer three basic scripts (click for larger sample):
Materials: Depending on the size of the lettering, I typically use black Staedtler Pigment Liner Calligraphy pens in widths of 1mm (when I can get them), 2mm, or 5mm, and black Pigma Micron pens in widths 02, 05, and 08. I also recommend the Micron for signing your ketubah. Proofing: When creating a complex hand-lettered piece, whether in English or Hebrew, I start by mocking up the complete layout on the computer -- so you always see a proof in advance. With smaller pieces, such as envelopes or placecards, I can do one or two samples in the final materials for your approval before I proceed with the job. Turnaround: Hand work does take more time; please allow an additional 2 weeks for hand lettering once a completed layout has been approved. Placecards and envelopes can usually be turned around in 1-2 weeks from receipt of materials.

However, if you appreciate the work you see here and wish to make some sort of payment in return for the pieces you download, please consider making a discretionary donation to my synagogue, Temple Beth Shalom of Cambridge, Massachusetts... or another charity of your choice.
