Genealogical Resources at the
Boston Public Library's Microtext Department
The department is a treasure trove of materials in microformat. This online publication will list the resources available in Microtext and, for some collections, commentary is provided on their use as related to genealogical research. A number of titles are also available digitally online from Ancestry.com, ProQuest and others.

The department also holds a newspaper collection embracing nearly all Massachusetts towns, as well as newspapers from major New England and national cities. Please consult Microtext Department's newspapers on microfilm web page for specific titles. Special collections of serials and newspapers can be found listed on the "Periodicals" webpage.
New items and commentary will be added as regularly as possible, so please visit again.
